چکیده

Exploration of asteroids and small-bodies can provide valuable insight into the origins of the solar system, into the origins of Earth and the origins of the building blocks of life. However, the low-gravity and unknown surface conditions of asteroids presents a daunting challenge for surface exploration, manipulation and for resource processing. This has resulted in the loss of several landers or shortened missions. Fundamental studies are required to obtain better readings of the material surface properties and physical models of these small bodies. The Asteroid Origins Satellite 1 (AOSAT 1) is a CubeSat centrifuge laboratory that spins at up to 4 rpm to simulate the milligravity conditions of sub 1 km asteroids. Such a laboratory will help to de-risk development and testing of landing and resource processing technology for asteroids. Inside the laboratory are crushed meteorites, the remains of asteroids. The laboratory is equipped with cameras and actuators to perform a series of science experiments to better understand material properties and asteroid surface physics. These results will help to improve our physics models of asteroids. The CubeSat has been designed to be low-cost and contains 3-axis magnetorquers and a single reactionwheel to induce spin. In our work, we first analyze how the attitude control system will de-tumble the spacecraft after deployment. Further analysis has been conducted to analyze the impact and stability of the attitude control system to shifting mass (crushed meteorites) inside the spacecraft as its spinning in its centrifuge mode. These analyses been performed to bound the science payload mass and identify fail-safe methods to guarantee spin stability and stop spinning when commanded to do so. The spacecraft will need to remain stationary when transmitting important science data to Earth and for conducting accretion experiments. AOSAT 1 will be the first in a series of low-cost CubeSat centrifuges that will be launched setting the stage for a larger, permanent, on-orbit centrifuge laboratory for experiments in planetary science, life sciences and manufacturing.

Design of an Adaptive-Neural Network Attitude Controller of a Satellite using Reaction Wheels

In this paper, an adaptive attitude control algorithm is developed based on neural network for a satellite using four reaction wheels in a tetrahedron configuration. Then, an attitude control based on feedback linearization control is designed and uncertainties in the moment of inertia matrix and disturbances torque have been considered. In order to eliminate the effect of these uncertainties, ...

Three-axis optimal control of satellite attitude based on Ponteryagin maximum ‎principle‎

A long time ago, since the launch of the first artificial satellite in 1957, controling attitude of satellites has been considered by the designers and engineers of aerospace industry. Considering the importance of this issue various methods of control in response to this need have been presented and analyzed until now. In this paper, we propose and analyze a three-axis optimal control on the s...

Finite-time stabilization of satellite quaternion attitude

In this paper, a finite-time control scheme is presented for stabilization of the satellite chaotic attitude around its equilibrium point when its attitude is confused by a disturbed torque. Controllers and settling time of stabilizaton are obtained, based on the Lyapunov stability theorem and finite-time control scheme. This method is satisfied for any initial condition. Numerical simulations ...

An efficient method to control the amplitude of the limit cycle in satellite attitude control system

In this paper, an efficient method is presented to control the attitude of a satellite with ON-OFF actuator. The main objective of this novel method is to control the amplitude of the limit cycle which commonly appears in the steady state of such systems; and at the same time by consideration of real actuator constraints, reduce the fuel consumption of system. The Proposed method is a combinati...

Fault tolerant nano-satellite attitude control by adaptive modified nonsingular fast terminal control

In this paper, an adaptive fault tolerant nonlinear control is proposed for attitude tracking problem of satellite with three magnetorquers and one reaction wheel in the presence of inertia uncertainties, external disturbances, and actuator faults. Firstly, sliding surface variable is chosen based on avoiding the singularity of control signal and guaranteeing the convergence of attitude trackin...
